Robert Pattinson's new movie, which is tentatively titled Remember Me, began filming in New York City this afternoon. As an exasperated crew member was overheard complaining, "They might as well call it Paparazzi and 'Tweens, 'cause there's more of us than them!" It was a fair statement considering how the crowd had swelled substantially (a rough estimate of 200) outside of NYU's Silver Center of Arts & Science, after fans had texted and called their friends to get to downtown Manhattan, like, omigod, right now!

The scene in question was of Pattinson (wearing a plaid shirt and donning those now-trademark sunglasses between takes) walking down the street while talking to a friend, smoking a cigarette, and holding a cup of coffee (he's versatile!). During one scene, the actor who plays Pattinson's friend mockingly yelled, "Have a good day, sweetheart!" as he walked away.

Oh, how the hundreds of girls who lined Washington Square Park would have loved to yell that to the Twilight star -- though the couple of "I love you Robert!"s and "I love you Edward!"s that squeaked in will inevitably make for some tough sound editing. Members of the mostly young, female crowd, some of whom had skipped school and arrived at the scene as early as 9 a.m. to watch their beloved Pattinson, said they had been tipped off by onlocationvacations.com. While the crowd mostly kept calm during filming, once the movie broke for lunch, a flood of girls chased Pattinson as he was escorted to his next location. So will this wreak havoc on Remember Me's fliming or will the cast and crew simply have to up the security/location ante?

Robert Pattinson confided in an exclusive interview to Clarin that "probably before the end of the year is in Argentina filming a western."

The actor was in Cannes promoting Eclipse New Moon, second in the series, which debuts on November 19. After chatting in a cozy room off the Croisette, it fits a tuxedo and joined their marches, walks the red carpet without Bastards of Glory, where he strafed flashazos a little rather than Brad Pitt.

The film in question is Unbond Captiva, and confirmed the words of the actor in London, also went to Argentina, the Australian Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) and the English Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener). "We are evaluating the possibility of filming in the south of your country, in Patagonia, in the mountains. It seems amazing to recreate the West in another side," confided the actor, who played 23 years on May 13. "You may also rodemos in New Zealand," he said. Pattinson is already in Italy finishing new moon, then go to New York to shoot the romantic Remember Me, then Eclipse, third in the Twilight saga, then yes, it will be a cowboy in Patagonia.

Amid a New York City mob of frenzied fans, Rob Pattinson collided with a taxi on the street outside the Strand bookstore downtown Thursday, according to reports.

The Twilight actor, in Manhattan filming Remember Me, apparently attempted to run across the street to escape a hoard of fans when he was clipped on his hip by a moving cab, whose driver slammed his breaks upon impact.

Pattinson, 23, did not appear to be injured and was able to walk away from the incident.

Production sources on the Remember Me set claim that Pattinson regularly attracts mobs of fans throughout the city wherever they're filming. "It's been nonstop busy all day with people trying to get a glimpse of him, and the crowd goes nuts when they do see him," a set source told PEOPLE Tuesday.

As a result, the actor has hired his own security in addition to the bodyguards provided by Summit Entertainment, according to the source, who adds that the heartthrob maintains a positive mentality about his fan base.

"I think he appreciates it. He's not one to make a big deal about it. He's a chill guy and quiet so far," the source says. "I think he finds it a little weird that people are standing outside all day to get a glimpse of him, but grateful."

Neither Summit Entertainment nor a rep for Pattinson was immediately available for comment.
