Hugh's character sounds very similar to the drover, I was almost surprised that he took role (so glad he did, though!). I think he is more of a central
focus in Captives, whereas in Australia it focuses a little more on Lady A. He also isn't as closed off as his character was in Australia - he wants May
right away!

I was actually surprised he took the role too - he must have loved the script. Or maybe he loved horseriding so much LOL. I wonder if Rachel and Rob know how
to ride.

Quite apart from liking the script, I think he might have also been persuaded by his agent Patrick Whitesell and Endeavor ( the agency of which Whitesell is
co-CEO) to take the role. Endeavor Independent is the film packaging arm of ENDEAVOR and handled the packaging of this film. Just guessing, of course.

There's been a lot of signings on to new projects recently. I read somewhere that there were a lot of projects backed-up waiting for the threat of a SAG
strike to be lifted, so that could explain the sudden activity now the strike has been averted.
...without Baz and his crazy vision, I don't think it'd be happening.

Wonder if that was the script he was reading in Rio.

How about this one?
How much is a kiss with Rob Pattinson worth?

LOL - I got a kiss from Hugh on the cheek during the TBFO run. All I had to do was to dance in public ( Hugh rehearsed us to do the bump and the grind), with
the spotlight shining directly on my friend and me, when Hugh chose us to be his Bicoastal partners. Afterwards, he said : " Kiss, kiss - girls
" - and we flew the distance in one second flat

LOL -- it was in the early part of the run - around late November to early December - when he was just starting to warm up for the Bicoastal encounters.
I did see the show several times then and the first chance I saw it, I had volunteered to donate to the BC/EFA charity campaign for a photo op. So, after the show, my sister, my grown-up niece , and I came up onstage and were part of a few people who were going to meet Hugh for that photo op. His dresser, Mark, took our names and formally introduced us to him. Hugh was very nice and the first thing he said to me was " I saw you on the front row!". When I told him that I am seeing the show a few more times, while we were getting ready for our photo with him, he asked me if they would all be front row seats. I said "Not all" and asked him not to please call me for that Bicoastal number ( as he usually called on people sitting on the first few rows). He smilingly said " I wouldn't subject you to such a public humiliation"
So, when I saw the show again with an American friend, I thought I was safe... But my friend was rather noisy in her appreciation of Hugh's Bicoastal number (the one where he sings on top of the piano and does the booty dance). So, he traced her shoutout to our section of the theatre ( we were on second row, close to the wall) and I thought " Oh, she's going to get it! Her fault! "...So she stood up when he motioned her to do that -- and I thought I was safe. But he wasn't content -- he then looked at me and
motioned me to do the same. I was very reluctant -- but with 1400 people in the theatre cheering us, I didn't have much choice. He asked the technical crew
to shine the spotlight on the two of us! Ackk!! ...Then he
proceeded to rehearse us for "the bump and grind"..Arghh!! ...When the music started we had no choice but to dance with him on our second row seats while he was dancing on stage. I was never so mortified in my
life - for one, I am not a dancer, even if I can - LOL!...After about about 2 minutes of perspiring while dancing, I stopped and thought I had done my part.
Noo-- Mr. Jackman glared at me and motioned me to continue. I thought it would never end
When he finally let it go, he slumped down to the side of the stage close to us ( which was not a part of the orchestra pit) and teased us with " Kiss, kiss - girls ?? ). We flew the distance of maybe 3 meters in one
second flat ... And that was how I got a kiss from Hugh Jackman ( I
only offered my cheek -LOL!).
EPILOGUE: After the show, we were waiting for a friend at the stagedoor ( not for Hugh), when some of the cast came out and saw my friend and I and they laughed out loud " Oh, the dancers!!" Haha!

It wasn't just the kiss
I also realized that I had actually made my Broadway debut (that is, performing before a full theatre and a famous one like the Imperial) - my few minutes of glory - and what it means to a great theatre fan like me
Given my love for the theatre, I discovered Hugh originally when I went to see Oklahoma! in London in 1999 without knowing the cast, because I am a fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein. But I forgot all about him ( because he never went back to the West End) until a good friend insisted I buy the DVD released in London of the show, in the fall of 2002 - and rediscovered him all over again, including his back filmography. By the time his involvement in TBFO was announced, I was ready to buy my tickets ( plane and theatre)
Another funny side to this whole thing. I usually like to sit as close to the stage as possible ( I am not of the tall variety ) so, when I ordered my first sets of tickets in May 2003, I had requested
close- to- the- stage seats. I was actually offered four sets for four dates all on Row AA ( the front row) - but I hedged as I was going to take some other
people with me and only got 2 sets on RowAA and others a bit further back. That was why I was sitting on front row-center when I first saw the show ( and
Hugh's remark about seeing me in front, when we had the photo op with him)...And why I said that I wouldn't be in all front rows when I see it
again...If you are familiar with the story of the show's run -- Row AA became the most famous and most-sought after seats in the show

I didn't know you saw Hugh in Oklahoma!, that's awesome. My coworker knows I'm a huge Hugh fan said her mom saw Hugh in Oklahoma! in London and
couldn't stop praising him when she went home. But at the time no one in America had any idea whatsoever who Hugh was, crazy how far he's gotten.

I was on a sudden and unplanned business visit to London ( I was delivering a paper for a funds management conference and was rather all involved with it) and
didn't have much time to prepare for the trip. I knew that Oklahoma! was playing in London and since I was a great fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein and knew
the previous London revival of Carousel was outstanding, I decided to get tickets even if I had no idea of the cast. I usually get close-to-the-stage tickets
but this time, because I was late doing it, I had to settle for Dress Circle ( like front mezzanine) front row tickets. I also had poor vision at that time and
I couldn't see the faces on stage too much. But the leading man struck me so much because he had this tall and commanding presence onstage and I thought
his voice really belonged to the legitimate stage - a real musical theatre voice ( a real compliment from me, because my favourite voice from the musical
theatre is Michael Ball, the Brit theatre star and singer). I came away very impressed! As I said I forgot all about him, because he never went back to the
West End...
But at the TBFO stagedoor, I once reqested him to sign my Oklahoma! DVD cover and told him how I had seen the production in London. He replied " But that was 5 years ago". Little did he know that for a few of those years, I had forgotten all about him

Hugh Jackman, FOX co-CEO Jim Gianopulos, and other FOX execs were received by the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon. It seems that this unsual honor was the country's show of appreciation of what FOX and Hugh Jackman have done when the health problems in Mexico broke out. Fox decided to reschedule the premiere ( and not simply open the movie without fanfare) and Hugh made a public promise to go to Mexico. Their visit to Mexico for the premiere signals a return to normalcy in the country. |
