Who do you think will distribute the film? As far as I can tell it's an independent production.
According to one of the Variety reports from Cannes, in the UK it has been pre-sold to Entertainment Film Distributions.
...without Baz and his crazy vision, I don't think it'd be happening.

Did it ever find US distribution in Cannes? Jo posted something about international distribution over in "General Press [pre-production]" thread.

iheartromance wrote:I'm not sure the US rights were being sought in Cannes, just overseas from how I read this from Variety. But I really don't know much about this stuff. Hyde Park Intl. will sell offshore territories at Cannes, and Endeavor Independent, which packaged the pic, will sell North American distribution rights. |

I'm so confused about this stuff, an article from Australia just said that it sold extremely well but like Pat said, for overseas distribution rights.
In terms of American rights, I thought it was a small pic too but would an indie company want to get distribution rights for a movie that costs 90M? I'm just so weary of Fox nowadays, I just hope its anyone but them. |

To give you an idea, here's how a $200m independent film got funded: Terminator 3.
...without Baz and his crazy vision, I don't think it'd be happening.

"FOX's Museum terminated WB's SALVATION" - as one wit puts the performance of the top two films this past weekend. I wouldn't discount
FOX's ability to market a film
I think it is simply a fanboy notion about how Tom Rothman ruins everything - I don't go along with that. He makes sound business decisions for the company and if not for the last year, his track record has been pretty good, as FOX did enjoy several lucrative years. He and Jim Gianopulos have recently been promoted to co-CEOS of FOX ( movies and film)... I am not complaining about how they market films -- look at what they did for AUSTRALIA and WOLVERINE! They poured so much money into promoting it, that one has commented that Hugh Jackman's face can be seen in so many billboards in the western world! I am personally hoping that FOX will distribute in North America. I have read that Hyde Park has a first-look deal with them that may still be operational...so, there is a chance. Also, I think the best way to market this movie is to reach for the broadest sector -- something that focuses on the powerful historical drama, wherein a romantic tone is woven into the story. |

Hubby is incredulous when I tell him what the fanboys think about Fox - he thinks it's the greatest studio in the world since most of his favorite old
movies are from that studio. Do you know how many times I have to listen to him play that 20th Century Fox theme song ad nauseum LOL? And god forbid I
fast-forward through it on a DVD!

I think Fox is very likely - if they were willing to pay $5 million for the script back in 2003, they must have liked it. They've done a good job
distributing other independent films - Slumdog Millionaire, The Wrestler, Little Miss Sunshine and recently Taken. We
don't know what went on behind the scenes with Wolverine, Australia and Deception but Hugh does and I'm sure that Endeavor
have benefited from that knowledge. I'd rather see it go with one of the majors than a smaller outfit like Lionsgate or Yari.
...without Baz and his crazy vision, I don't think it'd be happening.

I'm weary more because of Australia than I am because of Wolverine. Yes there was a lot of money put into Australia marketing but I don't personally
feel like they marketed it right, I don't know. Baz even said so at on point, but then again it really could have just been that people don't want to
see a film made like the old school. There's just been so much Hugh + Fox lately that I'm ready for something new. Fox Searchlight on the other hand
has been great, I wouldn't mind if they took distribution rights because they really seem to have handled their films really really well lately.

Some of them are down right scary as I've seen them issue death threats and even worse suggestions of what should be done to Mr. Rothman and Fox executives in general. This post sounds like you're one of them which surprises me. Maybe I'm reading it wrong. |

But I'm sure all studios go through this - I guess a case could be made that The Fountain should have been a platform or limited release, and that was Warner Bros. |

That's true, I guess I've been on SHH! too much and read too much about how Fox sucks and this and that and have caught the hate bug, lol. Eh whatever,
I just hope for the movie to be good, the most ideal would be for the film to be great and market itself, lol because really there's no better way than
WOM.

I don't mind so much who distributes it, as long as I get to see it! I don't think one like this should go very limited and slowly increase, I would
say the route of Australia would be right.

I thought if it was smaller then yes, a platform release would be right but no, not for a 90M dollar movie. If it opened in at least 3,000 theaters then it
should be good.

I was just stating how much my husband is a fan of Fox and their old movies, so much so that he loves to listen to their logo every time it comes up on the screen. Believe me, I couldn't care less about any studio and and I won't even address the fanboy comparison suggested..... that's the LAST thing I am....

It does look like that the movie can only start filming in very late fall or early winter. Rachel is supposed to complete her run for A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE
in early October while Hugh is now strongly rumored for a Broadway run in the fall. Michael Riedel, Broadway's leading pundit, reports that Hugh will
co-star with Daniel Craig in a serious play called A STEADY RAIN.
Expect ticket-buying and stagedoor encounters to be extreme nightmares!

I think I do too but I don't think the wallet will allow, between the ticket, and plane ticket to NY and all that, I'm thinking its going to cost like
$1,000 for me and I just don't think its a good idea, lol, as much as I want to be there. Also this thing will be sold out like quick with very expensive
tickets. It would be awesome if it was filmed and released on DVD like after the show's run, but that's so unlikely.

It is supposed to open after Labor Day and will most likely be on a limited run. Most run for about 90 days...and so Hugh should be free for filming after the
first week of December. Of course, he has not officially signed yet for the play
It is supposed to be a 2-character play and lasts only about 95 minutes. |
