Lots of filming takes place in New Mexico:

It looks like many states are offering excellent incentives to attract filming. In the case of New Mexico, it also has the advantage of probably providing some
geographical similarities to where the story actually takes place for this movie. I wonder if the brief New Orleans scenes will just be filmed in a studio set?

I liked The Last of the Mohicans, but I'm hoping Unbound Captives will be more "epic" and "wowing." I also think the overall acting and
story will be better.
I think because Mohicans was made a while ago, it's less accessible to modern audiences - the dialogue was somewhat cheesy. When I read Unbound Captives, it seemed like an epic modern audiences would love. And the love story is just so well fleshed out.

The Last of the Mohicans received an "R" rating from the MPAA.
A PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them. A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence. A motion picture's single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous. I guess a lot of parents will be accompanying their below-17 years children who are fans of Robert Pattinson to this movie, if it is rated R

iheartromance wrote:"The dialogue was somewhat cheesy" not because it was made a while ago but because it was written almost 200 years ago. It was a classic literary novel by James Fenimore Cooper I loved it, but I think Unbound Captives will be a better love story and it's set in a more exciting location and a time period that more people can relate to. |

I'm not sure if this has been pointed out, but John Toll will be the cinematographer:
To help Stowe with her first time directing a feature film, cinematographer John Toll will be photographing the film. He was responsible for how films like Braveheart, The Thin Red Line, The Last Samurai and the recent Tropic Thunder looked. Captives is sure to follow the gorgeously shot nature of those movies. http://screenrant.com/hugh-jackman-weisz-and-pattinson-unbound-captives-ross-8838/ |

I kept seeing this piece of news about location choices ( Argentina?) but it was mostly in Spanish -- but there is a new version with a bit of English (
it's a translation of sorts
)
http://www.spunk-ransom.com/2009/05/25/rumor-unbound-captives-to-be-filmed-in-argentina/ I wonder if Rob was misquoted or misunderstood...or he himself was not aware the producer has already announced that filming will take place in New Mexico and New Zealand. Unless the scouting team is still looking for another place for filming. I find this ironic because it is basically a story in the American west and there are enough gorgeous and historical settings around...or are they looking for more production incentives?

Jo wrote: Could be another place for filming? Interesting New Mexico isn't mentioned - that state has a 25% rebate for filming. Maybe they need a certain kind of mountain look - who knows..... Someone on an LJ posted this: I heard this a long time ago. I think the original idea was to do Argentina, but given the political climate in the area, and the fact that Hugh Jackman since became attached (and prefers NZ as a location for obvious reasons) they have decided on New Zealand and New Mexico (not sure why the difference and which areas Rob would be shooting in)

I think NZ is a good bet - not only because of its renowned scenery ( LOTR and more recently Wolverine) for major filming - but it has excellent filming
facilities there already well-proven. Plus it has the advantage of English-speaking cast and technical/non-technical crew choices.
I can't remember if much Spanish or Spanish-speaking people were included in TUC, given the Texas setting. That would be one advantage of filming in Argentina ( although it is likely some people in New Mexico also speak Spanish). The only film I recall seeing to be partly shot in Argentina was EVITA ( of course ).

I didn't take this source to be very credible. When I first read it, it sounded like hearsay. Rob mentioned something to someone who told it
to a reporter. Anyway like someone said, it was already reported in a more credible source that they had chosen New Zealand and New Mexico. Yes, many people
speak Spanish in New Mexico, but there was only one scene in a cantina and it didn't really seem to have any dialogue aside from Tom saying "no, you
don't know me" ( or something like that) when he killed the other murderer of Robert Neighbors. The Mexican ranch hand seems to speak English and
only says a couple of words in Spanish. All in all, I don't think they'll have much of a need to go beyond New Mexico or Hollywood for Mexican
characters to fill the cantina.

WMA Indie co-heads exit Elwes, Ronson make way for Taylor By MICHAEL FLEMING In the latest WMA-Endeavor merger shakeout, William Morris Independent co-heads Cassian Elwes and Rena Ronson are leaving the agency. Endeavor Independent chief Graham Taylor will take the reins of the indie film wing of WME. While it remains to be seen how the rest of the department rounds out, insiders said Jerome Duboz, a WMA lit agent who was a key member of the William Morris Independent team, will stay. How the indie film divisions would shake out in the WMA-Endeavor merger was a hot topic of conversation at Cannes. During the fest, Elwes and Ronson were busy selling territories on films including the Ryan Gosling-Michelle Williams pic "Blue Valentine" (co-repped with Endeavor Independent), and Taylor did the same on pics including "Unbound Captives," the drama to be directed by Madeleine Stowe that has Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson attached. During their long tenure at WMA, Elwes and Ronson have helped put together such indie films as "Half Nelson," "Thank You for Smoking," "Frozen River" and "Monster's Ball." The two were also key players in Incentive Filmed Entertainment, the WMA-generated $100 million film production fund that was designed to finance up to 50 movies with budgets under $15 million. The first titles to come from that effort included Natalie Portman starrer "Love and Other Impossible Pursuits" and "Blue Valentine." |
